Secret of Happiness

कसिणं पि जो इमं लोयं, पडिपुण्णं दलेज्ज इक्कस्स ।

 

तेणावि से ण संतुस्से, इइ दुप्पूरए इमे आया ॥

Meaning:

Even if all the wealth and prosperity of this world is given away to one single individual,  his greed will still not be satisfied. To gratify craving of such greedy soul is impossible.

Interpretation:

Everyone has different desires. While someone wishes to have wealth, some might wish for fame, some might desire a powerful position whereas some might want health and beauty. The desires might be different but the goal behind all of these wants is to acquire happiness. Be it rich or poor, young or old, whatever they do is only and only to attain their own happiness.

But the real question is, even after all these efforts is the person still happy? Enlightening us with the minute details about mystery of happiness, Bhagwan Mahavir has explained that even  if you shower a person with all the wealth and prosperity of this world, he will still be dissatisfied. Just how logs of wood and grass are never enough for a fire or how the river can never quench ocean’s thirst likewise, a person with intense quality of greed will always be hungry to acquire all the comforts and luxuries of the world. And this very greed does not allow him to experience peace even after acquiring so much. He might be wealthy on monetary basis but is always impoverished when it comes to heart. And this mental poverty leads to chaos, tensions and sadness. He who works hard to achieve something and being satisfied with the outcome can experience true happiness.

When your wish isn’t fulfilled, it leads to anger, and if the desire is fulfilled then it increases greed, so if you’re looking for permanent happiness, neutralise your greed, calm your expectations – this is the summary of Jinaagam

भावार्थ:

धन धान्य से संपूर्ण लोक की समृद्धि अगर किसी एक व्यक्ति को देने में आए फिर भी लोभी मनुष्य संतुष्ट नहीं हो सकता। ऐसी तृष्णावान आत्मा के लोभ की तृप्ति हो पाना महामुश्किल है।

विवेचन:

हर एक व्यक्ति की इच्छाएँ अलग-अलग होती हैं। किसी की इच्छा आर्थिक समृद्धि पाना है ,तो किसी की प्रसिद्धि। किसी की इच्छा होती है सत्ता पाने की, तो किसी की इच्छा होती है स्वास्थ्य और सौंदर्य पाने की । कुछ पाने की चाह भले ही अलग-अलग क्यों ना हो, लेकिन वो हर एक इच्छा के पीछे एक मात्र ध्येय होता है,सुख,सुख और सुख की ही प्राप्ति। चाहें वह ग़रीब हो या अमीर हो, बालक हो या युवा हो, अधेड़ हो या वृद्ध हो ,वह जो कुछ भी करता है वह सिर्फ़ और सिर्फ़ सुखी होने के लिए ही करता है। पर प्रश्न यह है कि, यह सब पाने के बाद भी क्या व्यक्ति ख़ुश है? सुखी होने के सूक्ष्म रहस्य को उजागर करते हुए भगवान महावीर कहते है कि , किसी व्यक्ति को सम्पूर्ण लोक का धनधान्य भी दे दिया जाय फिर भी लोभी व्यक्ति संतुष्ट नहीं होता । घास और लकड़ी से जैसे अग्नि,और नदी के जल से जैसे समुद्र कभी तृप्त नहीं होता । वैसे ही जिसके अंदर में लोभ वृत्ति होती है वह दुनिया के हर सुख-सुविधा को प्राप्त करने के बाद भी भूखा ही रहता हैं । यह असंतोष उसे सुख-साधनों की प्राप्ति के बाद भी सुखी नहीं होने देता । धन से भले ही अमीर बन जाय , लेकिन एक लोभी व्यक्ति मन से तो ग़रीब ही रहता है। यहीं मानसिक ग़रीबी उसे चिंतित, अशांत और दुःखी बनाएं यह

रखतीं है । प्राप्ति के लिए पुरुषार्थ करने के बाद जो प्राप्त हो उससे जो संतुष्ट होता है वहीं सुख का अनुभव कर सकता हैं।

इच्छा पूरी नहीं होती तो क्रोध बढ़ता है और इच्छा पूरी होती है तो लोभ बढ़ता है, इसलिए अगर सुखी होना है तो लोभ वृत्ति को समाप्त कर इच्छा को शांत करना ही जिनागम का सार है ।

ધન-ધાન્યથી પૂર્ણ લોકની સંપૂર્ણ સમૃદ્ધિ જો કોઈ એક વ્યક્તિને આપી દેવામાં આવે તેમ છતાં લોભી મનુષ્ય સંતુષ્ટ ન થઈ શકે એવા તૃષ્ણાવાન આત્માના લોભની તૃપ્તિ થવી મહામુશ્કેલ હોય છે.

વિવેચન:

દરેક વ્યક્તિની ઈચ્છાઓ અલગ-અલગ હોય છે. કોઈની ઈચ્છા હોય છે આર્થિક સમૃદ્ધિને પામવાની, તો કોઈની પ્રસિદ્ધિને પામવાની. કોઈની ઈચ્છા હોય છે સત્તાને પામવાની, તો કોઈની ઈચ્છા હોય છે સ્વસ્થતા અને સૌંદર્ય પામવાની. કંઈક પામવાની ઈચ્છા ભલે દરેકની અલગ-અલગ કેમ ન હોય પરંતુ તે દરેક ઈચ્છા પાછળ ધ્યેય હોય છે માત્ર સુખી થવાનો.   પછી તે ગરીબ હોય કે શ્રીમંત, બાળક હોય કે યુવાન હોય કે વૃદ્ધ, પણ તે જે કંઈ પણ કરે છે તે માત્ર ને માત્ર સુખી થવા માટે કરે છે. પરંતુ પ્રશ્ન એ છે કે, આ બધુ પામી લીધાં પછી પણ શું તે વ્યક્તિ ખુશ છે? સુખી થવાના સૂક્ષ્મ રહસ્યને ઉજાગર કરતાં ભગવાન મહાવીર કહે છે કે, કોઈ વ્યક્તિને સંપૂર્ણ લોકનું ધન-ધાન્ય પણ આપી દેવામાં આવે તેમ છતાં લોભી વ્યક્તિ સંતુષ્ટ નથી થતાં. જેમ ઘાસ અને લાકડાંથી અગ્નિ અને નદીના જળથી સમુદ્ર કદી તૃપ્ત નથી થતાં એમ, જેમની અંદરમાં લોભવૃત્તિ હોય છે તે દુનિયાના દરેક સુખ-સુવિધાને પ્રાપ્ત કરી લીધાં પછી પણ ભૂખ્યાં જ રહે છે. આવો  અસંતોષ સુખ-સાધનોની પ્રાપ્તિ પછી પણ આપણને સુખી થવા દેતો નથી. ધનથી શ્રીમંત બની જવા છતાં પણ એક લોભી વ્યક્તિ મનથી તો ગરીબ જ રહે છે. આવી માનસિક ગરીબી વ્યક્તિને ચિંતિત, અશાંત અને દુઃખી રાખે છે. પ્રાપ્તિ માટેનો પુરુષાર્થ કર્યા પછી જે પ્રાપ્ત થયું હોય એમાં જે સંતુષ્ટ રહે છે તે જ સુખનો અનુભવ કરી શકે છે.

ઈચ્છા પૂરી ન થાય તો ક્રોધ વધે છે અને ઈચ્છા પૂરી થાય તો લોભ વધે છે માટે જો સુખી થવું હોય તો લોભવૃત્તિનું શમન કરીને ઈચ્છાને શાંત કરવી તે જ જિનાગમ સાર છે
